PARTIAL HOSPITALIZATION
Acute
Partial Hospital Services (APH)
are designed for individuals who are experiencing acute distress from
psychiatric illness, but who do not require inpatient hospitalization.
By “acute distress,” it is implied that psychiatric symptoms have
worsened significantly from baseline functioning, consequently preventing the
individual from engaging in previously routine activities, or from utilizing
less intensive modes of treatment. The program may serve individuals who have been discharged
from an inpatient stay but still require continued intensive treatment on an
outpatient basis. Individuals may
exhibit acute symptoms of single-episode illness, of acute decompensation of a
long-standing illness. Individual
treatment goals are tailored to individual needs. Essential clinical features include: close psychiatric
monitoring, emergency contact services, highly individualized
treatment planning and service, therapeutic familial and
spousal involvement, thorough discharge planning and follow-up.
Referrals are accepted from internal and external sources. The APH
Program operates during daytime hours, Monday through Friday.
Transportation is available.
Eligible clients are at least 18 years of age and have received a
psychiatric diagnosis indicating severe or persistent mental illness.
Referrals are accepted from hospitals, private practioners, human service
agencies, family members are self-referral.
